Yarn talk

Okay, about my yarn adventure. I had so much FUN in the yarn stores. I didn’t want to leave any of them. And I received helpful and friendly service and advice everywhere I went.

I mapped out all the stores ahead of time and got their hours on their websites. Then I found the shops’ locations on my road map and marked them, along with their hours. I also marked the people’s homes I planned to visit. Then I sifted it all together and came out with a schedule that worked pretty darn well.

Back to the yarn:

1.  Blue Heron Yarns, color Sandstone, rayon/metallic, 550 yds, bought at Purlescence Yarns in Sunnyvale.

2.  Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock, color 152 Georgetown, 215 yds/skein, bought at Knitting Arts in Saratoga.

3.  Rowan “Calmer,” color 476 Coral, 175 yds/ball, bought at Commuknity in San Jose.

4.  Colinette “Lasso,” color 33 Kingfisher, 205 meters/hank, bought at Knitting Arts in Saratoga.

5.  Royale Hare Handpainted Sock Yarn, color North Coast Nocturne, 200 yds/hank, bought at Full Thread Ahead in Los Altos.

I also peeked in on a yarn shop that I knew would be closed, but I couldn’t resist a drive-by yarn rush. So I stopped briefly at Yarn Dogs in Los Gatos. That was true “window shopping,” and I even managed not to get arrested for loitering.

And now, surrounded with luscious color, I am newly inspired. Oh, I just realized I brought home a single ball of two more yarns that were on sale at Full Thread Ahead. I forgot to include them because I already had one of them OTN. I was hoping to made a soft facecloth out of it, so I didn’t put a pattern in—just stayed with stockinette. The facecloth/swatch below has been through the washer & dryer.

I was practicing my Continental on the facecloth and did some English in there as well. Although I was switching back and forth between knitting methods, the stitches weren’t too uneven . . . but the wash evened everything up anyway. I love that.

The yarn is Tahki Cotton Classic “Color,” in Tidal Pool (green) and Cool Blues (blue).
