Oncology update

Saw my oncologist yesterday and the spots on my lungs have not grown — great news! The oncologist suspects that the spots are encapsulated cells due to the dirty and dusty work of closing down my mother’s house in January after she died.  The house itself wasn’t dirty, but all the storage shelves outside sure were, and boxing up everything was quite a job. Tucson, being desert and all, is a dry and sandy place.

Anyway, the oncologist is scheduling another PET/CT scan and more blood work for October, as well as my annual colonoscopy.  Don’t be afraid to get your colonoscopy done! It saved my life.

On the way home, I saw four military helicopters in formation over our military cemetery here, and I wondered who had died and was being honored. Another life cut short; another family devastated. It was a sobering sight.

I began a scarf this week for a friend who is going through a difficult time. I am using Trendsetter Yosemite yarn (color is Peacock), which is a thick and thin bulky yarn. Even with size 13 needles, I’m not happy with the way it’s turning out. So I’m looking for a different yarn that will have some drapiness to it so it will lay better and be more comfortable to wear.

In the meantime, I whittle away at Sahara.  One of these days the body will be done. I’ve joined front and back and am knitting in the round now. But I’m not even at the waist yet because I keep getting distracted. And I still have to decide what sleeve length to make.

So glad to hear that your results are good!

I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and we have Fallen Comrade Ceremonies. They are the most sobering experience. Everyone lines up along the main road and the coffin is escorted in a humvee and covered with a flag, down the road onto the flightline. Salutes are rendered and there is one individual that travels with the body all the way back to the States.

It’s sad, but I appreciate the opportunity to show respect for what the individual fought for.
