Continental Workout

Ooh boy. Yesterday I was all about my new at-home workout, a.k.a. learning to knit Continental style. I slaved on practice swatches, which I kept ripping out and beginning again as the swatches got too large to handle easily. I tried Continental for a few rows, then Combined for a few rows, and on and on until I chose Continental, got down on one knee, and gave it a ring.

And then the pain started.

First the shoulders. I felt like I’d been pulling myself up El Capitan using only my upper body strength. (Okay, I haven’t actually been up El Capitan yet, and if I have to depend on my upper body strength, I never will.)

But hey, whenever you start a new exercise program, there are going to be aches and pains. So, as Michael Bluth used to say on Arrested Development, I put my head down and plowed through . . . .

No, wait, it’s more than that. This is a ROCKY thing. As Rocky Balboa said, “All I wanna do is go the distance . . . and if I can go that distance, y’see, and that bell rings and I’m still standin’, I’m gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren’t just another bum from the neighborhood.” Yeah, that’s it.

and, success!!  “Adriaaann! Adriaaann!”

However, we all know how it goes with pride and the inevitable fall. Today I woke up with pain not only in the shoulders, back, and neck but down both arms as well. NO ONE TOLD ME that learning Continental knitting would be so strenuous. I am NOT Rocky Balboa. I have my limits.

So I’m kickin’ back, baby, and cuddling up with Ice Kube, my cute spousal trainer, for a while.
