“I shall wear purple”

Rachael Ray’s sweater in Parade, Sept. 16, 2007

I posted this photo so the wonderful knitters on the Yahoo Knitlist could help me figure out how to make the collar into a stole. I don’t really want to knit another clapotis, and this seems like it might be a fun look for a simple wrap. That collar looks like a warm hug on Rachael Ray, doesn’t it?

Update:  I was referred by a Knitlister to this Berroco “Sadie” pattern, which is about as close as possible to the above sweater. The collar alternates stockinette with reverse stockinette stitch. Simple enough, and it seems like this might make a graceful and warm wrap.

That looks like welting to me–a few rows of knitting followed by a few rows of purling. Make a little swatch and try it out! :-)

Check out this shawl @ http://www.freevintageknitting.com/shawls/minuet-shawl-pattern.html
It is not exactly like the sweater collar, but it is close in style.
